Metzler is having it's Veteran's Day event today at 9am. The Cub Scouts wanted me to wear my Class A uniform but my principal said wear red, white, and blue to school today for the Veteran's Day event happening this morning at 9am. I insisted on doing what the principal said. It was a challenge for me to find a red, white, and blue outfit that I liked that Mommy said looked nice for the event.
GGF, GGM, and Barbara arrived early so they could get a nearby parking spot and get a seat. They got front row seats.
GGF went to the office to get in line to join the Parade of Veterans. Mrs. Cat was there, so Barbara introduced her to my great grandfather. She was very pleased to meet him. Her father faught in WWII also.
There were probably 40 veterans in the parade. There was at least one and maybe a second WWII veteran at the event besides GGF. The parade went down each of the grade hallways. The children were seated on each side of the hall holding pictures of appreciation for the vets to enjoy.
GGF and Barbara only went to the first and second grade halls, then they turned around and made their way back to the cafeteria.
Six older cub scouts in my pack were the color guard. We all said the Pledge of Alligence and sang the Start Spangled Banner.
The third graders sang five patriotic songs.
My class was on the front row.
Mrs. Cat bought each of my classmates a small flag to carry and we also held up pictures that we drew to let our veterans know we appreciatd their service to our country.
There was a slide show presentation of pictures of Metzler student's family members that were veterans. This is the picture I took to school of GGF. He was 18 years old and serving in the South Pacific. When I saw this picture on the screen I remembered it was of GGF. Barbara was surprised that I could pick him out of all of the pictures that were shown since it was several weeks ago that I took the picture to school.
After the program, I found GGF and GGM so we could take a picture together. Grandma Brenda really likes this picture. I bet she puts it on Facebook.
There was cake and punch for the vets. GGF, GGM, and Barbara were glad they came to my school for this event.
GGF was given these two pieces of art work...
... made by older children. I'll give him my artwork tonight.
Mimz volenteers on Friday's at her hospital or she would have been at my school for the Veteran's Day program. Her hospital had a program of their own to recognize all employees and the branch they served in.
The first thing Barbara asked me, when I jumped off the bus, was how was my spelling test. My reply to her was we didn't have it. So I'll just have to practice those words over the weekend to keep them fresh in my mind.
Mimz arrived ten seconds after my bus dropped me off. I went home with her. I was asking for a Blizzard as we drove off. (A shake that Dairy Queen sells.)
