I had a big fan club at my Pinewood Derby event this morning: Mimz, Daddy, GGF, Grandma, Papa, Andy, and Barbara.
Mimz and me waiting to check in.
GGF found some people to talk to.
Daddy and Andy carrying canned good to donate to the food drive. We brought my book so I could work on a badge having to do with games. I was dressed in my Class A uniform. Barbara helped with my tie. Mimz told us that the tie clip used to have an X in the back part that would help hold it in place. It doesn't have that now, so we use one of Mommy's ponytail holders to hold it in place.
Daddy, Andy, and I watched my car being inspected. It weighed 4.9 grams. Maximum weight is 5.0 grams. After the inspection my car was kept my the race officials. Because my car is orange and black and because I am a Tiger cub scout I named my car "Tiger."
I ate the pancakes and sausage that my Daddy bought me while we waited for a technical difficulty be resolved. I think there was almost an hour delay in getting started. My group, the Tigers raced first.
Here are several pictures of the track:
Starting gate.
The end.
The finish line.
Where the cars end up. There were four tracks to the long metal track which belongs to my pack. It costs about a thousand dollars. We let another pack use it so it is only used twice a year but it has been used for several years. Normally the two packs have separate events, ours in the morning and theirs in the afternoon, but this year we decided to share the event. There were 13 Tigers entered.
Each boy's car raced in four heats using a different track each time. I won my first heat and did well on the other three. In the end, I came in fourth place. I missed out on third place by .12 of a second! The first three places got to go to the pack final and at the end of the day there was a grand champion named. We were not there for that because I had a flag football practice and football game to play in.
Here are some pictures of the cars waiting to race in the back room. We could not go back there, but one of the officials offered to take the pictures for me:
All the entries.
My car is on the first row, fifth from the left.
These are are entries for non cub scouts, like parents and siblings. Next year Andy and my dad need to enter cars.
These are the trophies.
Ready for the races to start.
This picture was taken when my car was racing.
We are discussing how my car is doing. I know the first race I came in first (of four cars). One time I came in third. The other two races I don't recall where I placed.
A race is about to begin.
Daddy and I are pleased with how well my car is doing.
Trophies are going to be handed out. I came in fourth place in my den, so I didn't get a trophy, but I'll try again next year. I really want Andy and Daddy to make cars and enter them. I missed third place by .14 of a second (or something like that.)
We left before the the games badge workshop because I needed to get to my football practice and game. I will do the requirements at home so I won't be behind my den.
There was a silent auction. Grandma bid on four things. She ended up getting a nice bag and a car washing basket. Andy bid on a red velvet cake because it is Kristan's favorite. He won it. That will make Kristan happy.
My same fans came to my football game except Andy. He needed to get home to Kristan and their children. It was cold. Barbara had GGF all bundled up and she bundled up too.
Mimz brought things to keep her warm also. Grandma, Papa, and Daddy were tough and didn't let the cold bother them.
I'm number 12.
I wore my red shorts and white leggings again. That lets my fans be able to spot me easily. I think we might have won the game, but I'm not really sure. I played super well. I am a good catcher, passer, and runner. I can do it all.
Daddy took me home with him. We went back to the store where we purchased a Play Staion game to get it replaced because it was not working right.
