I was the first person awake this morning. I woke Barbara up and she fixed my breakfast. A bowl of Fiber One cereal, then a bowl of Cinnamon Crunch cereal. Both are good tasting. Mommy had the day off work today so she drove me to school. Mommy is going to Lafayette Louisiana with another lady to a scrape booking event. She will be home on Sunday. I already miss her. My mom was born in Lafayette, Louisiana.
Today was the 100th day of school this year. I could have dressed up as a 100 year old man but I didn't want to this year.
We were to bring a collection of 100 things. I brought a small sack of 100 buttons. Other things brought were 100 q-tips, beans, rubber bands, and Cheerios. We ate the Cheerios.
Today everything we worked on had to do with the number 100. Below are more papers I worked on today:
In Music class we sang Ghost busters songs.
I jumped off the bus wearing the 100 days hat I made. Anthony and Alyssa have gone to California to visit family. I played with Cole until his GG came to pick him up.
We finished my homework and played chase and football in the front yard. I spend Wednesday with Mimz and Cole spends Thursday with his grandmother. Then Barbara had to play with me. We threw the frizbee, and then a football.
Then GGM helped us cut off dead elephant ear plant leaves. I was a good worker.
I was good about being willing to get cleaned up and dressed for cub scouts probably because none of my gang were here to play with me.
My den meeting was at fire station #7. Nine boys out of ten came to
the station. We were told to wear our Class A uniform. All but two
boys did. We had a flag ceremony.
Then we entered the fire station. There were four fireman there: the
boss, the driver, the guy who hooks up the hose, and the guy who holds
the hose. They all know there jobs so they don't have to talk about who
will do what. There are also two guys who go on the ambulance, who
were out on a run when we were there so we did not get to see them or
the ambulance. Some of the firefighters are also EMTs.
They told us how important it is that they work as a team.
They opened most of the fire engine compartments like the
medical compartment, the hoses, the water controllers, the different
tools they use. We each got to climb up into the fire engine cab.
One fireman put on his fire-fighting gear. He told us to
not be afraid or hide from a fireman dressed up like this. He is there
to help us in case of a fire.
They showed us the fire station.... one story so no fireman's
pole! They have computer/paperwork rooms, TV room, exercise room,
dinning room, kitchen, and bedrooms. There are three shifts. They work
24 hours, then are off for 48 hours. The shift is from 7am to 7am.
Three men share a bedroom, but they are all of different shifts so there
is only one person in the room at a time. They each have their own
locker/closet. They each have their own bedding that they put on their
bed when it is their turn to sleep. There are three pantries. Each
shift/team has a pantry with their own food. They go to the store at
the beginning of their shift to buy the food for their shift.
They
clean the bathrooms, the kitchen, the floors, the entire place every
time on every shift, They also keep the firetrucks clean, and ready to
use. They have continuous training. They must stay in good shape.
At the end we all said thank you. I was the only boy to shake their hands. Barbara told me that would be a good thing to do.
Out side the fire station we talked about what we had leaned, and about the up coming Pinewood Derby event.
We were home by 7:45pm, which gave me just enough time to get a snack, brush my teeth, and read a Pete the Cat story. Then we turned off the light and Barbara told me a story about Nice Nelly, formerly the Wicked Witch who gave Fireman Sam trouble. I was asleep by 8:35.
