Mommy woke me up at 6:45am. All I had to do was get dressed, eat cereal, brush my teeth, and comb my hair. Mommy had everything packed and in the garage ready to load the car. Barbara, GGM, and I helped carry things to the car while Mommy put them in the back of her car: firewood, tent, tent tarp, lanterns, folding table and chairs, misc camping gear (flashlights, bungee cords, first aid kit, etc) air mattress and pump, sleeping bags, pillows and bedding, clothes, toiletries, food and ice chest. We planned to leave home at 7:30am but we pulled out at 7:14am. I took my iPad to entertain myself on the hour and a half drive to Brazos Bend St Park.
Last thing GGM said was "have fun" and Barbara said "take pictures." I know we will have fun... I am not so sure we will remember to take pictures. We had to stop by John John's house to give them my soccer snacks and drinks since it was my turn to bring them to the game.
We stopped at the front office at the park and were given a map to the camp site. We arrived at the camp site at 8:45am. Perfect timing. We left for a guided hike at 9am. After we got back to camp, we started unloading our camping gear. We parked right by our camp site. We had not tried to set up our tent but it was a pop-up tent and just popped right up like it was supposed to. The only problem we could have had was that there was no electricity and we needed it to blow up our air mattress. But a dad had what was supposed to be a universal battery operated air mattress pump. Well it didn't fit our mattress but he held it on for the five minutes it took to fill the mattress and it worked just fine. Mommy needs to find a battery operated pump for our mattress. We put all of our stuff in the tent. There was room for our mattress and there would be room for one more smaller mattress and still
leave room to walk around and store gear.
One dad brought a light weigh soccer ball and two goals and that was a big hit. We played that while a den of older boys came and hit Easter eggs at our camp site for us. We each could find ten eggs and we helped the younger siblings find eggs too.
We made homemade ice cream. Each boy had a sandwich bag with the ice cream ingredients in it. We put that bag and some ice and salt in a freezer bag and we squeezed and squeezed and squezzed our little sacks. All the boys needed their parents to help them finish it. Our hands got too cold and tired to keep on squeezing that long. It was good ice cream and it was fun.
There was a snake program. Only one boy wanted to go, all the rest of us wanted to stay and play soccer. A few parents went and my mom went. I guess we should have gone. Mommy said it was very interesting and I could have even touched a snake!
Mommy ran into Eli's dad. Mommy came to get me and we both went over to see Eli and his family.
The older boys in the pack were responsible for cooking our dinner. Hot dogs and hamburgers. All the pack gathered together for this event. After dinner the Tigers all went back to their area and we visited for a short while before it was time for bed.
Mommy and I opened up one sleeping bag and laid on it and had a warm blanket over the two of us. Perfect sleeping for us both. We used both of our little battery operated lanterns but the best light was one that was on a headband and that sat on my forehead. When we needed to go to the bathroom after dark that is what I wore. Mommy carried a lantern.
