Mimz took me to school before she headed off to her volunteer job at
the hospital and she picked me up from school.
We went to the park to
have another play date with Sophia.
I took the lead this day.
We play well together.
Back at home we had root beer floats.
I had a baseball game. I hit a single and made it around to score a run. I was batting second in the line up tonight. I have always been the last batter until today. Another time the bases were loaded and I hit and single and one run scored. And the last time I batted, I singled in another run. I was the second baseman and had a great game. We won, but they don't really have a winning and losing team.
Today GGM spent a few hours visiting with her sisters Fay and Doris in Muskogee, OK.
Grandma, GGF, and Barbara drove to Mary Frances' home in Claremore to visit with Glen and Barbara Bates from Oregon, a relative they had not seen in 60 years. They are doing genealogy research. They had been given a lot of information by Lily. It included a lot of GGF's work. Glen and Barbara commented on how great GGF's work was. They loved how he documents everything, telling what his source for the information was.
The Bates first cousins there were: Mary Frances Howard, Madge Lee Havenstein, Jack Deitrick, and Marilyn Herring, Brenda Laplante, and Barbara Saul.
Glen and GGF (John Bates) are first cousins once removed. That means Glen is my second cousin twice removed. (These relatives understand all of this genealogy stuff.)
Madge Lee provided lunch and GGM had baked a Lazy Daisy Oatmeal Cake for Daddy's birthday. Mary Frances had 9 0 candles for the cake. A funny thing: (Before they left on their trip, I had asked for a piece of the cake, but was told I couldn't have any since it was a birthday cake.) While everyone was eating lunch, back in the kitchen GGF and Jack cut the cake and ate two pieces before the candles and Happy Birthday was sung. I guess I could have had a piece after all. lol
After getting Grandma from Fay's home, they drove to 908 S Cherokee. It was easy to find, because of this abandoned grain elevator.
This old address house number sign came off the old Tracy house. The Tracy's lived there from 1944 to 1958.
GGM and GGF are standing where they lived when their families were next door neighbors. The houses are long gone...
... but the old Coal Grain elevator, directly across the street, is still standing. It is not used any more. My Great great grandfather Reuben Bates worked at this elevator. GGF worked there some.
They drove from 4pm until midnight to get home. It was an uneventful drive home, just like they wanted. Barbara said they wished GGF a Happy birthday just after midnight.
